Twenty years ago, Aladaco set out with a clear goal: to help organizations use less energy and improve operational performance.

Since 2005, a lot has changed. Technology, expectations, regulatory frameworks, and decarbonization timelines. What has not changed is the foundation of this work: practical solutions, reliable data, and partnerships built on trust.

To mark Aladaco’s 20th anniversary, our team recently stepped away from day-to-day delivery for a milestone retreat at Blue Mountain Resort. It was an opportunity to connect as a team, celebrate our successes, and reflect on our history and the work that lies ahead.

This post marks 20 years of learning and momentum. It looks back, looks forward, and launches our new 20th Anniversary Guide, Building an Energy & Carbon Management Culture in Your Organization, built for organizations at any stage, from long-time partners to brand-new connections.

20 Years of Progress, Powered by People

For two decades, we have supported municipalities, utilities, healthcare institutions, and industrial, mining, agricultural, and community organizations. This work has deepened our expertise in areas like:

  • ongoing energy management

  • carbon inventories and GHG monitoring

  • energy and decarbonization planning

  • facility and system assessments

  • demand-side management (DSM) program delivery

But if you ask our team what they’re most proud of, it isn’t a list of services. It’s the long-standing relationships built through consistent delivery, shared objectives, and a commitment to practical results.

What Long-Term Partnership Looks Like (In Our Clients’ Words)

These testimonials demonstrate the range of client outcomes possible when energy and carbon management is supported by reliable data, technical rigour, and ongoing collaboration.

Burlington Hydro, our longest standing client, put it best: has been with us from the early days to now, and they put it best:

“Over the past 20 years, Burlington Hydro has trusted Aladaco as a consistent and reliable partner in advancing energy efficiency and carbon management initiatives. Their team brings strong technical expertise, clear communication, and a customer-focused approach that ensures projects are completed to a high standard. Aladaco has been a valued extension of our team, supporting Burlington Hydro in delivering measurable results for our customers and community.”

Why this matters: longevity like this comes from high-quality work and a smooth process.

The Township of Cavan Monaghan shared:

“Working with Aladaco was a great experience for our Township. Their knowledge, professionalism and quality of work exceeded expectations. We hope to work with them on many future projects.”

Why this matters: effective GHG monitoring and analysis only works when the process is approachable enough to sustain.

For YMCA of Niagara, the goal was straightforward: understand energy use and find real opportunities to improve efficiency.

“We hired Aladaco to conduct an Energy Audit at our Niagara Centre YMCA with the goal of understanding how energy is consumed in the facility and identifying opportunities to reduce consumption. We received actionable recommendations that will help our YMCA operate more efficiently, reduce costs, and move towards a more sustainable future.”

Why this matters: an audit is only valuable if it turns into decisions and momentum.

In agriculture, efficiency is tied to day-to-day realities. Truly Green Farms highlighted the breadth of support:

“Aladaco has supported us with numerous energy management initiatives, including a comprehensive carbon inventory of our operations, utility bill analysis, and energy management training for our staff. Their professionalism and expertise have enabled us to effectively manage our utility usage and operational costs.”

Why this matters: the best results happen when teams feel confident carrying the work forward internally.

How We Work (Why This Approach Has Endured for 20 Years)

Across sectors and project sizes, our approach remains consistent:

  • Dedicated project leadership.

Clients have a clear point of contact accountable for communication, delivery, QA/QC, and alignment with objectives.

  • A partnership mindset.

We work as an extension of internal teams, providing continuity across multiple planning cycles and implementation stages—not limited to a single engagement.

  • Support beyond the report.

Progress is achieved through implementation, so we stay involved to translate plans into measurable outcomes.

This structure is a key reason why partnerships last and why progress continues to build over time.

Blue Mountain: A Milestone Celebration and an Opportunity to Look Ahead

At Blue Mountain, our team had the opportunity to celebrate this milestone together and reflect on what the last two decades have taught us.

A few key themes emerged:

  • electrification is outpacing generation growth

  • data quality and data use are becoming central to decision-making

  • decarbonization planning has moved from optional to essential

  • organizations need partners who can connect strategy to execution

The conversations were less about nostalgia and more about perspective and a shared sense of what we can achieve in the next 20 years.

Our 20th Anniversary Guide (Focused, Practical, and Built for What’s Next)

To mark this milestone, we have developed a guide, Building an Energy & Carbon Management Culture in Your Organization, that brings together:

  • lessons learned across 20 years of energy and carbon work

  • current trends shaping energy management and decarbonization

  • tips to help organizations determine where they should focus next

  • guidance for translating planning and data into measurable results

This guide is designed as a practical resource for organizations navigating complex energy and carbon requirements—and looking for clarity on what to prioritize.

Looking Forward

The past two decades have reinforced that meaningful progress on energy and carbon management relies on good data, practical planning, and strong partnerships.

To our clients and partners: thank you for trusting us, challenging us, and building progress with us over the years.

To organizations actively working toward energy and emissions goals: we recognize the complexity of this work and remain committed to helping make the path forward clearer and more achievable.
